University Project
2015 Brief The clients’ brief was to design a smart, environmentally sustainable family home. |
The house was custom-designed for purpose and lifestyle with sustainability at the core. The home was based on sustainable design practice to minimize the ecological impact (including initial embodied energy), maximize comfort to the occupants and reduce costs for ongoing energy usage.
The house had to adapt to a growing family, include self-contained accommodation for guests, space to work, and private space for the parents. It was also important that the house could open up and connect with the outdoors, cope with the hot South East Queensland summers, and provide plenty of living space for relaxing and entertaining. My design took into account all of these aspects: orientation of building on site, functionality, social form, material choice, construction methods, transportability, environmental/thermal comfort, ventilation, lighting, insulation, sustainability, affordability. |
